Dear FUMC Shreveport Member,
On behalf of the Staff Parish Relations Committee, it is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Steven H. Bell as the next Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church Shreveport. This exciting announcement is the culmination of a yearlong, God-led process conducted by the Staff Parish Relations Committee as guided by The Book of Discipline in conjunction with clergy and the Louisiana Conference.
Dr. Steven Bell joins us from First United Methodist of Corsicana, Texas, where he has served as Senior Pastor for the past five years. Originally from Coushatta, Steven attended Centenary College where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1998. Upon graduation, Steven obtained his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Perkins Theological Seminary at SMU. After various pastoral appointments in the North and Central Texas Conferences, Steven joined White’s Chapel Church in Southlake, Texas, serving as its Executive Pastor for Family Ministry from 2008-2015. In 2015, Steven was appointed as Senior Pastor at FUMC Corsicana where he will serve until December 31, 2020.
In early 2020, Steven fulfilled a longtime calling to obtain Chaplain Credentials in the United States Army. Currently he is completing this training program in the 451st Civil Air Battalion. We look forward to his bringing the richness of that ministry back to FUMC Shreveport in the future.
Steven is an accomplished author with books published on topics of marriage and family and on Advent and Lenten devotions. Steven is married to Meredith, an ordained Deacon in the Methodist Church, who leads successful Wesley Foundation ministries at Navarro Community College. Meredith holds a masters and doctorate from Perkins Seminary. Steven and Meredith are the proud parents if two daughters, Ann (16) and Lia (12).
In closing, please help us welcome Dr. Bell and his family to the FUMC Shreveport community January 1, 2021. Now, in the coming days and weeks, we will celebrate with our love and thanksgiving Dr. Day’s 27 year ministry at FUMC and look forward to the next exciting chapter under Dr. Bell’s leadership.
In His Service,
