Prayer ministry

The Prayer Ministry of First Methodist Church provides an opportunity to transform our congregation and our community through prayer, education and encouragement. It is a source for experiencing God through intercession, personal prayer time, monthly prayer services, classes, and more!

The Prayer Room Ministry consists of intercessory prayer for specific prayer requests that are submitted to the church. Volunteers schedule a time and day (Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm) to be in the Prayer Room, usually for an hour each week. This prayer time can be spent alone or with a friend or two. Volunteers also send notes of encouragement to people on the prayer list if requested.

Prayer Shawl Ministry meets weekly on Tuesday afternoons to knit or crochet prayer shawls to be given to those who are ill or are in special circumstances. Yarn, needles, and lessons are provided. Additionally, the “Novice Knitters” meet weekly on Mondays at noon in the Courtyard Kitchen to pray and knit.

Prayer opportunities for 2025

Volunteer to Pray in the Prayer Room

  1. Did you know…we have members praying in one-hour increments in our FMC Prayer Room from 9:00am-4:00pm, Monday through Friday?
  2. Members of the Prayer Room Team pray over every request that comes to the church – from members, staff, community, families and friends.

If you would like to serve in our Prayer Room, please set up a time with me, and I will walk you through this beautiful time of worship and prayer.

Volunteer to Pray at Home

  1. Each week the Prayer ministry puts together a list of requests we have received and have faithful folks praying for those on the list.

Volunteer to Pray with our Hedge Ministry

  1. Did you know…we have members praying in the Prayer Room during our Traditional and FaithLink Worship services every Sunday?
  2. If you would like to cover our worship services in a hedge of prayer, please set up a time with me, and I will happily guide you through the prayer room.

Couch Chapel Weekly Communion Service

We also have a weekly communion and prayer service in Couch Chapel at 12:00 pm directly following the 11:00 am worship service. This is a time of refreshment for your soul and we would love to have you join us.

National Day of Prayer & Breakfast of Blessings

Our ministers will continue leading the annual National Day of Prayer Service on the first Thursday of every May, and the FMC Prayer Ministry will lead our annual Breakfast of Blessings on the last Sunday of each October. If you would like to lend your leadership or gifts to these events, you would be most welcome!
