Isaiah 61:6-7—You will be called The Priests of the LORD; Ministers of Our God, they will say about you. You will feed on the wealth of nations, and fatten yourselves on their riches. Instead of shame, your portion will be double; instead of disgrace, they will rejoice over their share.
Isaiah 62:2b-4—You will be called by a new name, which the LORD’s own mouth will determine. You will be a splendid garland in the LORD’s hand, a royal turban in the palm of God’s hand. You will no longer be called Abandoned, and your land will no longer be called Deserted. Instead, you will be called My Delight Is In Her, and your land, Married. Because the LORD delights in you, your land will be cared for once again.
At several places throughout the scriptures, people are given a new name after an encounter with the LORD. The name change is often indicative of God calling a person out of an old identity, and into a new life of purpose, passion, and meaning within the kingdom of God. You may have felt defeated, frustrated, broken, humiliated. But in Christ, you will be called victorious, joyful, healed, and favored. Let’s allow the LORD to speak to us once more, and hear the call of a new name upon our lives, which leads us to new purpose and renewed passion for Jesus.
