1 Peter 2:9
1 Peter 2:9—But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people who are God’s own possession. You have become this people so that you may speak of the wonderful acts of the one who called you out of darkness into his amazing light.
Why do we do what we do? This question has driven lots of conversations lately. Each person may answer it differently as it relates to different parts life. Why do we play sports? (To win.) Why do we go to work? (To make $$.) Why do we enjoy movies? (To escape.) Why do we listen to music? (To express ourselves.) Why do we invite friends over? (To share life.) The questions are endless. This question is also great to ask ourselves about church and all of what that means. Why do we do church? Why do we worship? Why do we call for prayer? Why do we study the bible? Why do we believe in leadership? Why do we insist on community? Why do we talk about money? Why do we encourage serving? We do this because the world desperately needs to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. We do this because we who have stepped into the light of God’s transforming love, are compelled to speak into the darkness and proclaim the gospel hope. We do what we do because we have been made alive for God in Christ, and want to see the world rescued by God’s love. Let us proclaim the wonderful acts of God’s extravagant love and grace, that the world may know Christ.
