FUMC - Starting Point Ministry
Welcome to First United Methodist Church Shreveport! We invite you to become a part of our community of faith as we partner with you discovering Jesus Christ, worshipping God and encountering the Holy Spirit on your journey of discipleship.
The Church is the people, plain and simple. We want our members to be engaged in every aspect of the life of the church, from worship to teaching, to serving and leading.
We have created a system and team to follow-up and care for members who are seeking to connect more fully within the life of the church and/or who have become disengaged.
During our Starting Point Membership process, you’ll not only learn what it means to be a member at First Shreveport – but you’ll get an overview of our 1Vision – Connect, Grow, Serve and Lead. Wondering why Membership matters? Read More! (Action button taking them to an Article on Membership Matters)
Step 1: Discover – Starting Point
We provide an opportunity for prospective new members to learn more about the life of the church. Dr. Pat Day and Rev. Derek Joyce as well as the remainder of the clergy staff are available to answer questions about First Shreveport.
We share our vision, values, and how to get plugged in. So whether you are ready to consider becoming a Member, or just want to learn more about us, this is the best place to start. Email Stephanie for more information.
Step 2: Explore – Starting Point Campus Tour
Our Campus is historical, beautiful and spread out! Starting Point Campus tours breakdown the buildings, how to get around and where everything is located. Tours are led by volunteers during the Sunday School hour 9:45 am on the Second Sunday of each month. No need to RSVP – just meet at the Welcome Desk/Coffee Corner in the E&A Building campus map
Step 3: Commit – Starting Point Footprint
Joining a faith community is a serious decision and we want to affirm your decision by equipping you with specific information about who we are as a faith community, our history, what we believe, and discover how God has uniquely created you to serve Him at home, at work and in the world.
